Categorisation is a social problem - different people have different words for the "same" category.

Use Google-like tags (check schtuff.com for a nice example) - this would make lots of wiki pages easier to find, IMHO.

Module "messages_unread_messages" provides a text indication to the user eg "You have 999 new messages" and a hyperlink to messu-mailbox.php.

Would a more graphical alternative module be possible / make sense?

I'm thinking it might display a grey open envelope if there are no messages, a green open envelope if there are only read messages and a red closed envelope if there are any unread messages. (Some might suggest red and read should be paired, but red is usually associated with needing attention, so makes more sense to me.)

On mouse-over, the grey open envelope might say "no messages", the green open envelope might say "999 read messages" and the red closed envelope "999 unread messages"

On click all three would hyperlink to page messu-mailbox.php in the same way that the current module does.

Is this a sensible/viable suggestion to enhance the look and feel of tiki?

Calendar should be like the other elements in the menu

for exemple:

add an event (which means we need an URL for this)

The following patch adds negated group support to TikiWiki. Using this patch, you can choose to hide modules from users that ''are'' in a given group, by simply specifying the group name as !Group.

The patch is in production use on the [http://www.asperger.asn.au|Asperger Services Australia] website. I'll see if I can come up with some screenshots shortly.

Group plugin is very cool to put conditional content on a wiki page.

However, it is only an if. There is no if/else.


Say I want to show a content X to people in a group and content Y to everyone else.

Maybe we could have a new parameter?: notgroups

Would we nice if we pushed a little bit in Group Tracker usability.

At the moment I see it as nothing different as a tracker itself. When there is a group tracker set in a group, when you join the group, nothing happens.

My suggestion is to make it to when you ask to join a group, you first are asked to fill in the group tracker, and than you join the group. To make it an obrigatory step in joining a group. (At the moment you can join the group and than fill the tracker, but that allow someone to join and not fill in the tracker) I was thinking of also make use of the Plugin Tracker Item Field, to check if the user have already filled in the tracker, so it can join the group.But that also allow a user to fill the tracker and not join the group. Anyway, I think there might be a way to bind these two things.

A little more would be to make an approval workflow to the admin see the tracker item of the applicant to the group, and inside it approve or not the user in the group. To use it as an application form.

The plugin List (or listExecute) is able to filter by range:

The gap is hardcoded in the plugin filter value.
It would be nice it could be one a variable such as a value within the tracker.

As an extension it would be nicer it accept a Human Readable value like days or month.
It is unlikely end user has to deal with value like "2592000" (second) in a tracker item but more with value like "30 days".

They would be nice to have easy to setup “predefined schedules” delivered within Tiki by default.
Rebuild sitemap, rebuilt-index, ping to an external service, etc...

We could also implement some mechanism for them to be turned on and off via preferences.
IE (TBD):
In Admin => Search => Indexes;
Do you want to allow the scheduler to rebuild the index on a regular basis ?
Every nnn minutes (1440 = a day)

Help System is not listed as a feature for Tiki Tracks. Is it the same as WebHelp? If so, then one or the other should be renamed for consistency

When creating a horizontal rule previous version of Tiki wiki 2.x allow you to use multiple hyphens (>3).

~np~i.e. "---------------" in 2.x version would produce the same horizonttal rule as: "---"~/np~

Since the short Url feature is being added to Tiki, could it not be combined with file galleries such that a file in a gallery is linked or displayed by using a short Url instead of the file Id?

This will enhance security and add new functionality to Tiki. Currently the value of fileId is sequentially generated and is therefore predictable: visitors can easily scrape off files from a tiki install by using tiki_download and incrementing the value of fileId inside a loop. Additionally, files can be hotlinked.

To fortify tiki against this, all that needs to be done is to combine the new short Url functionality with file galleries: if plugin files is used with a parameter, say "mask" or "obfuscate", then the fileId will be substituted with a short code. For example, the user enters tiki-download_file.php?fileId=1 in the wiki text editor, just as before, but if the obfuscate="y" parameter is used then the html will show tiki-download_file.php?fileId=RandomShortURLhghhgfftrdfgnj

As an additional feature, if the duration (life / validity) of the short code can be user defined per gallery / file / plugin files parameter, then tiki-download_file.php?fileId=RandomShortURLhghhgfftrdfgnj will stop serving fileId=1 after that time. Tiki could then be made to serve content via perishable and non predictable file names - just like the big CDN companies such as Akamai do.

I imagine this would be fairly simple to implement and would add a very useful feature to Tiki.

Hi,

I am using hotwords on my Tiki and I am facing a problem. I'm not sure if it is a bug or a feature request but I would like some help to achieve what I want.

I have the following list of Hotwords:
Word > URL
Lift Mechanics > Lift Mechanic
Lift Mechanic > Lift Mechanic
lift > lift
lifts > lift
chair lift > chair lift
cabin lift > cabin lift

The problem is that "list" will conflict with words like "chair lift" and the following text is displayed in my Tiki:
A small lift,:::::" >cabin lift or a big detachable grip lift" >chair lift should do the job.
Instead of links to "cabin lift" and "chair lift".

Is there a way to make Hotwords with two words (chair lift) override single words (lift)? ANy other suggestion is welcome.

PS: I need both pages, "lift" and "cabin lift"

I would like to know if it is possible to force the tikiwiki login process.

I want the login page for the home page, in order to force the users to log in. I have to modify the tiki-index page ?Do you guys have any hint for doing that?

I noticed that there are no hreflang tags on tikiwiki pages.
I have 2 domains (.com and .ch). The content is absolutely the same (also the language). I need hreflang tags to avoid duplicate content.

Trying to install Tiki 6.2. But just now realized that my quota for web server is 10,000 files only. Current compilation of Tiki is 10,648 files. Inside the compilation, there so many small images files that could be joined into one image file by categories, and this way HTTP request for pages elements would be enhanced. I think you know about sprites: Image optimization method (http://css-tricks.com/video-screencasts/43-how-to-use-css-sprites/). Besides from reducing the # of files, this method will reduce the # of HTTP requests and increase response time.

Because of limitation on my server, I am deleting some files. Do you have any other suggestions for me.

I am not sure if this is a formal "feature request" yet. More of a discussion/debate for now...

How should we handle forums in a multilingual site? Is it a lot of development?

*Should we split tiki-forums.php by language?
*What do we do when some users would like to see messages in more than 1 language?
*How do we handle modules which show the most recent messages? In all languages? by choice?

Say a Tiki site is translated in 18 languages. If I only speak one language, the "best language" works for me. But if I speak 3 languages, I would like to be able to easily see the content in those 3 languages without being shown the rest.

Suggestion: For each use to have an ordered list of preferred languages.

For example, a user selects:
1- French
2- English
3- Spanish

and let's suppose we add a language setting to forums. Please see :[http://dev.tikiwiki.org/tiki-view_tracker_item.php?trackerId=5&itemId=1030|i18n forums]

So, when I list the forums, I want to see those 3 forums, but not the other 15. Without a system like this, it makes it easy for everyone to be tempted to just stay in their main language.

Another example: wiki page translations. If a wiki page is available in 18 languages, just show the user the list from their preferred languages

This would be very useful for wiki structures. Using the next/previous in structure would show page in the user's preferred language, if available. This would be useful for doc.tikiwiki.org and the Mozilla Support site.

Problem: people forget their username

So Tiki has a feature to let people use their email as username. So far so good. But when people start using collaborative features, their email is disclosed (not good)

Perhaps Real Name could be shown instead of email/username?

There is a risk of confusion though because Real Names are not enforced to be unique.

If a user is watching/monitoring for when "any wiki page is changed"...
*"Monitor this page" should be disabled, and
*Old watches should be deleted.

When you use file gallery (or image gallery, doesn't matter) and the image plugin to add images to Wiki text, you almost always want text flow around images, using the parameters align=right | left.

And you don't want to have text flush to the image. To add space between them, you use hspace and vspace parameters.

But: hspace is always applied, even if the image is positioned left of the text or right of the text. It would be an improvement if no hspace would be added when there is no adjacend text, i.e. at the side where the image is standing. This would make it look more professional. I know, we will not become as sophisticated as a DTP software, that is not the scope of a wiki. But space between images and left/right margins does not look well...

It would be great if the images galleries would have the following features:

a) Rate this picture
People, according to given rights system can rate pictures and 'an automatic' gallery keeps track of highest rated pictures.

b) Send this item as a postcard
The old e-card system where people sent a picture and some personal text via mail to a friend and get a mail when the picture has been seen

c) Make it optional if a subgallery is shown at the main gallerylisting or just underneath its parent.

p.s. I've never filled out a tiki track, I hope I'm doing this right. If not, please forgive me.

Most people don't need this. The admin determines the sort mode. End of story.

It is possible to make ((doc:Drawings)) and even use an image as a background, and draw over it.

But if you have an existing image, you need to modify it before you upload.
