History: Software the Wiki Way Panel

!General idea

This is an idea for a panel for WikiSym 2008. The topic would be Software Development the Wiki Way

Participants could include:

* Marc Laporte: Give an idea of what it means to do an Open Source project in a truly Wiki Way, and reduce barriers to contributions in the code base.

* Leader of a non-Wiki-Way Open Source project: For example, the leader of Drupal (I assume that like most OS projects, they are not quite as participative as TikiWiki).

* Alain Désilets: Give an Agile Development perspective on this. Agile is often perceived as being "free-for-all", but in fact, it requires a lot of skill and discipline. How does that compare Jive with the wiki-way of software development?

* Dirk Riehle: Give an empiric research point of view on all of this.

* Ward Cunningham: As founding father of both Wiki and XP, he would have an excellent perspective on this.

The participants would make sure to get together for a 1-2h chat before WS08, to understand each other's point of view. Based on that, they would write a half-page position paper that they would read at the panel as an introduction.

I think this would make for a really interesting panel. Only problem is that four of the suggested participants above are members of the program or conference committee!

!Working on the proposal for the Panel

Here's what I think we need to do:
* Submission deadline: May 3rd.
* Brainstorm names of participants.
* Send them invitations, maybe using Alain's position paper (see below) for providing context.
* Get the particpants to write a short position paper, and record them on this wiki site. These position papers will be included in the proposal submitted to the WS08 program committee.
* Organize a 60 mins chat session of the participants, BEFORE sending the proposal. Record it so we can include a transcript of the chat in the proposal submitted to the WS08 program committee.
* Collect bios from participants, with emphasis on their experience as public speakers (keynotes, panel participation, etc...). This too will be part of the proposal.
