Since upgrade from 12 to 15: weird characters in non-english notification emails (wrong encoding?)

Email received got proper encoding and chars displayed in the subject for me, but not in the email body, where there were wrong chars displayed.
For instance, this part:
Testing special charaters: ÃÃÃÃÃñçà èìòù
was expected to show:Testing special charaters: ÁÉÍÓÚñçàèìòù
as shown in the header of the show.t.o instance.Full email received (short headers shown heere, sorry; I couldn't see any charset info in the full headers; for full headers, send a notification email to your own email as indicated above):
