Calendar

Status

Tiki's event calendar is fairly powerful but it's still a little rough around the edges. It is not seamlessly integrated with the rest of the application, as there are certain date and event related features that are not connected with each other. Not all parts work smooth and robust. We need to review all aspects of TikisCalendars, especially as recently SabreDav was integrated and Tiki could get some attendance by a new target group of customers

Event related features and functionality

  • Calendar. The actual Calendar tool of Tiki, now with SabreDav integration.
  • PluginConvene
  • Task Tracker - a profile that makes use of tracker date fields - not integrated with Calendar
  • Gantt diagram - makes use of tracker date fields - not integrated with Calendar

* Kanban board - new! - makes use of tracker date fields - not integrated with Calendar

  • TrackerCalendar - a ressources tool based on Tiki Tracker aswell making use of tracker date fields - not integrated with Calendar
  • Users have a pretty good private calendar UserCalendar, which seems to be an independant feature of Tiki's actual event calendar. The latter one permits a private channel too.
  • tools calendar or "activity calender" which is excellent to follow changes in various sections (Site activity monitor)
  • A blog calendar (go back "using a time machine", show me articles/blogs from date X) - maybe not related; check code wise

  • Further more there is Webmail based on Cypht and from there the feature calendar event invitation by Email.
  • To complete that the Contact and Task syncronisation with SabreDav has to be checked and potentially fixed

Roadmap

  1. Dec 2021 Review, test and evaluate all existing date related features and functions in Tiki
  2. Jan 2022 Discussion in the community, which features and functions need to be integrated with the Calendars in what priority
  3. Spring 2022 Start the integration process and bug fixing, depending on the ressources

Wishlist & ToDo

  • Add drag and drop functionality to Tiki calendars, for ex to move events between days or to another month.

  • Being able to set a recurring event like 3rd Thursday of each month, which we need for our Webinars <- check and test if that is already possible
  • Even trickier, "last Thursday of each month"
  • Remove "This event is not recurrent" when it's the case
  • When there is no description, skip the field instead of indicating that there is no description
  • Custom link setting in calendars is not respected (ex.: when I don't want a URL)
  • Calendar item creation and syncronisation from local devices to the server seems to be not robust - needs further testing, bug report, fix
