Instructions for Tiki Testers

This page contains instructions and procedures for testers of Tiki.

List of test plans

Testing will focus on the following 5 profiles (name of the person responsible for testing the profile in parenthesis). Additional test plans may also be added to test specific modules or aspects (ex: a test plan for watches).

Other test plans not directly linked to a profile:

How to carry out a test plan

To carry out a test plan, do the following

Choose which test site to use

  • If you are testing a profile, you can use one of the profile testing sites mentioned above. If you don't know the users and passwords for those sites, ask one of your fellow testers, or Alain or Pascal.
  • If you are not testing a profile, then you have two options:
    • Install Tiki locally on your own machine, so you can test it.
    • Ask Alain Désilets to have a site created for you on tiki.org, where you will be able to carry out your tests.

Update Tiki to the latest revision

  • With SSH or Putty (if you are on windows), or any other SSH client, go to the test site.
  • Update Tiki Wiki on that site its latest revision
    • Go to the SSH window
    • cd ~/public_html
    • svn update
    • Take note of the version that is now currently installed
      • svn log | more
      • The first line you see gives you the current revision number. Ex: r2317.
      • Write down that release number so you remember it.
    • sh setup.sh
      • type Enter in response to all the questions

Reinitialise the Tiki DB

  • In your browser, access the tiki-install.php script on the test site.
  • If the system complains that the DB is locked
    • Go to the SSH window
    • cd ~/public_html/db
    • rm lock
    • Reload tiki-install.php
  • On the Welcome screen, choose English if you want to use the instructions on this page. Then, Continue.
  • On the license page, click Continue
  • On Review the System Requirements_ page, click Continue__
  • On Set the Database Connection page, click Use Existing Connection
  • On Install & Upgrade page, click Reinstall the database, then Reinstall.
  • On Review the Installation_ page, click Continue__
  • On Configure General Settings page, click Continue
  • On Enter Your Tiki page, click Enter Tiki Without Locking Installer
  • Note: You may be asked to enter a DB user name and password. Note that this is different from the ones you used above to log in with SSH. Again, if you don't know ask one of your fellow testers, or Alain or Pascal, or one of your fellow testers.

Login as admin for the first time

  • From the home page, login as u:admin, p:admin
  • You will be asked to change the admin password. Please change it to 1234, so we all know what it is (this is a testing site anyways, so security doesn't matter).

Re-install any profile to be tested

  • If you are testing a particular profile, you then need to install it.
  • Login as admin
  • Click on Admin link on the left, then Profiles icon.
  • In the Profiles field of the Filter the list of profiles__ section, type a word that is part of the name of the profile you want to test (ex: type 'terminology' for the Collaborative_Multilingual_Terminology profile).
  • Click List button.
  • The profile you want to test should appear in the list below that button. Click on that profile name.
  • Click on Apply now button, and wait for results (__Do not hit the Apply now button more than once).

Test the profile

  • Go to the page describing the test plan. See above for the list of those pages. If you are testing a profile, the test plan is usually on the profile's own page, in a section called Test Plan.
  • Print the Test Plan , so you can check-off each step as you go along. Because the profile page contains a lot more than just the test plan, you should probably copy and paste the test plan section to a word processor and print just that.
  • At the top of the test plan, in the Last tested section, enter your name, date, and revision number that you will be testing.
  • Carry out the various scenarios described in this plan.
    • If you find that something is broken which used to work, then write a bug report, and make sure you specify 4.x for Tiki version. Also, insert a short description of the bug inside the test plan page, right below the parts of the instructions that are failing. Use Bold to put emphasis. Make sure you mention the release number that you tested, and put your name, so we know who to talk to for clarification.
    • If you see a comment in the test plan which said that something was broken, but you find that it is now working, go to the corresponding bug report and close it, then delete the comment from the test plan.
    • If you see a comment in the test plan which said that something was broken, and you find it is still broken, put a note to that effect (in bold), mentioning your name and revision number that was tested.

Keywords

The following is a list of keywords that should serve as hubs for navigation within the Tiki development and should correspond to documentation keywords.

Each feature in Tiki has a wiki page which regroups all the bugs, requests for enhancements, etc. It is somewhat a form of wiki-based project management. You can also express your interest in a feature by adding it to your profile. You can also try out the Dynamic filter.
