This page is to coordinate work about upstreaming SUMO's Metrics Dashboard
2009-09-14 IRC discussion
marclaporte cilias: is there something equivalent for Data warehouse and metrics dashboard?
Cww marclaporte: what about those?
marclaporte Cww: I am trying to gather any & all info (doc, screenshots, etc.) about all new features and major enhancements to 1- evaluate workload to port to Tiki4 and 2- to find the relevant members of the Tiki community to coordinate with
marclaporte ref: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Support/TikiUpstreamTriage#Features_.2F_enhancements_that_should_go_to_Tiki
Cilias marclaporte: Cww would know more about that than I, but the PRD is at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Support/MetricsDashboardPRD
Cww marclaporte: so the datawarehouse stuff is completely done independant of tiki.
marclaporte is looking at page you posted
marclaporte PRD is VERY helpful
marclaporte tks
Cww so the storage side of it we basically went with an entirely different product.
marclaporte ok. So what is your feeling about upstreaming? worth it? / not worth it?
Cww we can upstream the frontend but all it does is display results from a DB query where you specify the exact SQL to run.
Cww you still have to build and populate the DB backend.
Cww (using whatever method you want and however you want to do it)
marclaporte I am reading on the page something about Omniture
Cww if you want the metrics functionality and don't worry about the hit on performance, it may be better to roll your own solution by beefing up the actionlog.
Cww the only reasons we went with our methodology is because 1) we hvae way too much data that querying the tikiDB every time metrics are requested is completely infeasible.
Cww and 2) we have outside sources of data like omniture.
marclaporte Well, I would like an out-of-the-box self contained basic solution for people that don't use Omniture, but I would like plugin in to other stuff to be not too difficult
Cww But if you don't have those restrictions, I bet you can build a better solution without the second DB overhead.
Cww what we have right now is not a self-contained basic solution.
Cww marclaporte: I'm off to a meeting, if you want to ask me more about the metrics DB, I'll be back in an hour.
marclaporte Cww: tks
